Time For Change

My guess is that the nervousness on Lombardi Avenue in GB has increased significantly these last two weeks. You can only fire coordinators and assistant coaches for a definitive period of time before someone notice that the problem may be the boss and not the workers. This column has questioned the judgment of Coach Sherman on many occasions before and into the season. His steadfast refusal to even sit down and talk to Mike McKenzie was nothing more than an indication of a guy who is so hung up on himself that he cannot admit a mistake. He might just be candidate for President someday. While there is no question that Sherman has the authority to hire his assistants, I believe that there was some pressure exerted from upstairs to bring in Bill Bates. True as it is that Bates was the best defensive guy available, it is also true that Bates showed the ability to be a head coach with his performance over the last half of this past season. Mike Sherman could be on a lot shorter leash than anyone is mentioning and Harlan and company may already have a replacement in house in case one is needed before the end of the 2005-06 season. We need good decisions in the draft and good decisions in re-signing our key guys, then we need to see an organization that is run with the idea that great teams are built from all the players pulling in the same direction. Sherman doesn’t seem to generate that kind of leadership.

But enough of that, it’s time to move on.............

I told you all five weeks ago that that Fighting Illini team would enter Madison undefeated. What I didn’t expect was that they would leave Madison undefeated. Obviously, those people who shelled out $300 for a nosebleed seat didn’t think so either. It wasn’t the Illini fans paying those prices for bad seats; they were all down front. I do have to give credit to the Badgers. If Kameron doesn’t miss that bunny lay-up, that game has a whole different dynamic. Nonetheless, the best team won the game and if there are doubters out there as to whom is the best college team in the USA, then they are not only doubter but also morons. Wisconsin is now fighting for second in the conference and I fully expect that they will earn that spot for the Big Ten Tourney. Another match up with Illinois in two weeks is predictable when it is at Champaign but a third shot at them in Chicago might be another story. The Badgers are rated about right. They are for sure a top twenty team but not a top ten team. Until Alando Tucker gets healthy, they are also vulnerable. By the way, where is Brian Butch?

With as much ado that is happening in the world of college basketball, it makes it very easy to overlook the HORRENDOUS play of my beloved Milwaukee Bucks. Point blank, they freakin suck you guys and I am really, honestly their number one fan.

We have got to do something before the trade deadline. This team is an embarrassment. The only two out there on the court with any heart are Michael and Desmond. VanScorn is a has been and its time that we come to face it. Danny is getting better, but in my mind I still believe his ego is bigger than his talent. We need a younger team, better talent, and more ENTHUSIASM.

Time for change people. Time for change!

It’s nice to be back after my little vacation and mourning period in Mexico. But, as I said before, its time for us all to move on and keep our focus on our other loves. Thanks, as always for checking in and until we meet again Milwaukeeworlders, remember to keep your ears open and your noses clean!

Ciao,
