November 15, 2004 Quotes of Note.......And Some of Not!! By: Marty Coultas Milwaukeeworld.com Hello Milwaukeeworlders. After a week of crummy weather, crummy news, and crummy events, I found this week to be the perfect time to take a look back at many of the statements, observations, and predictions I, Marty the Sports Chick have made throughout my one year of writing for Milwaukeeworld. com. Oh people, there are many things I was way off on. Like my prediction that Tim Couch was going to be a great asset to the Pack. What an idiot I was. Or that I said regardless of what players the Pack had at game time; we would make the playoffs. What a genius I was. But
my friends, let us celebrate the win on Sunday of the Pack against
the hated Vikings. Let us mourn the loss of the Badgers,
as we all knew deep down we were not going to go undefeated. And
let us look back at many of my, yes my, comments and words from
the year past. “ And then to top that off, we see the Brewers sale, the Packers utter lack of talent, motivation, willpower and drive, and the Bucks return to town with a suspect sense of what’s to come.” Let me tell you people, I am just beat. There is too much freakin drama happening in sports. We’ve got baseball players shooting each other, football players talking smack, hockey players planning murders, and most of all, franchise owners going absolutely freakin AWOL! Mark Cuban ring a bell? That guy is completely CRAZY! But, I guess if you are like me Milwaukeeworlders
that is why we are so intrigued by these games we all love so dearly. “ But enough of that BS. Let’s talk about the players on this team who are dedicated and committed to making this team the best in the NFL. For starters, Ahman Green, one of the best running backs in the league, who by the way actually is someone who could pick a bone with management about his contract, has chosen to take the high road. Green has said he is going to train and work extra hard physically and mentally to beat the stellar season he had last year. Ahman, who is coming off a franchise record 1,883 rushing yards has set his goals higher for the upcoming season and is looking to break the 2,000 mark.” “ Then there is Favre. Still one of, if not the, greatest player in the game has said his only goal this season is to go all the way. Favre, whose father passed away during the Pack’s playoff run, has not spoken publicly about his drive to win for his father, but any media figure at mini-camp last week can see the determination and focus our QB has. This is Favre’s season, mark my words Milwaukeeworlders, he will be the MVP of the NFL this year and if he can keep his interceptions low, he will also be the MVP of the Super Bowl come January.” “ The Pack has some serious work to do in the upcoming training camps, but we have some real potential on this team INCLUDING the punter that we all gasped about two-weeks ago. He was a stand out at Ohio State and pretty much the only positive member of the offense the Big Ten giants had last season. B.J Sander is a guy with accuracy, strength, and most of all POTENTIAL!! Something this team has needed for punting for the past two seasons. It’s too early to tell what this team is going to do come opening day against Carolina, but with Sherman’s leadership and his assistants’ coaching resumes, along with the overall talent of the team in general, it’s quite possible that THIS WILL BE our year to come back and prove all those naysayers wrong.” “ I guess we will just have to keep reading the news and following the camps, but mark my words Milwaukeeworlders, I think 2005 is the season that the PACK WILL BE BACK!” “Tim Couch will be a great addition to the Packers. There is no reason that he can’t be a backup for a few seasons and then take over. A quarterback’s lifespan is directly related to the number of hits he has taken. Couch is young and every season he spends studying and practicing and not taking hits will make him better. He already knows what game conditions are like since he was a five-year starter. So that part doesn’t have to be learned. He is strong and smart and seems ready to wait and, heaven forbid, if we should need a backup to play, he also has the skills to do it.” From early Septemeber of this year: “ ESPN’s moronic sports reporter Jim Gray got the interview and by the way, he is the imbecile who seems to get all the really great quotes from pro athletes throughout each league, but yet there is not one single sports fan in America who has any respect for the guy.... Remember the Pete Rose incident at the All-Star game a few years back? Anyway, Gray sat down with Bird and asked the question, ‘Does the NBA lack enough white superstars in your opinion?’ After a little contemplation on Bird’s part, he responded with an overwhelming, ‘I think so. I think it’s good for a fan base. As we all know, the majority of the fans are white America, and if you just had a couple white guys in there. It is a black man’s game and it will be forever.’” “ What in the hell does that mean Larry? Your statement did not make any sense. Not even an educated WHITE MAN could figure out the meaning of your comments. My God, you didn’t even finish your freakin sentence. Is it just me, or did the above comment, which mind you is a VERBATIM quote make any sense at all? ‘And if you just had a couple white guys in there.....’ What Larry, if we just had a couple white guys in there.....What? What would a couple white guys do?” “ Doesn’t the NBA already have ‘A couple white guys?’ In fact doesn’t your own freakin team have a ‘couple white guys?’ I thought that Austin Croshere, Scott Pollard and Jeff Foster were all white guys. Apparently to Bird, they are not who he was referring to.” From
Late July of this year: “ This moron, for lack of a better term, was a no show this week for the ‘non-mandatory’ mini-camp, the last before regular season training will begin for the 2004-2005 season. According to Hunt, he informed player personnel and Bob Slowik among others, that he was unable to attend camp due to prior engagements in his hometown of Memphis. Hunt, who has begun a charity in Memphis, insisted that he appear at the ribbon-cutting, inaugural, whatever the hell it was ceremony to kick off the charity. He also stated that his class reunion was to be held this weekend at his high school and he was obligated to attend because he was making a large donation to the high school and it would be ‘unprofessional’ to not attend.” “ Point: Hunt is a scared little baby who knows that once his big ass lands in GB that he will be drug tested and might possibly receive his third and FINAL strike against him with the NFL’s policy of drug use among players. Mind you Milwaukeeworlders, this is only my measly opinion, but I think it is a serious thought to ponder. When you have the kind of money this screw-off has and you are one of the leading players on one of the best teams in football, why would not attend a camp that Brett flippin Favre was at? Noone got a comment from Favre saying he was too busy with fishing plans in Mississippi to attend, did they? No. And that is because Brett Favre is a REAL MAN and a dedicated player. Okay, so it is unprofessional to not attend your High School reunion, but it isn’t unprofessional to not show up to your JOB?!? Just something to contemplate.” From Late August of this year: “ So, yet again my friends, we are brought back to the idea that the professional world of sports is so untruthful and impractical that the only thing that matters to the owners, the General Managers, and the Sports Authorities who run these so-called franchises, are nothing but ‘factual” impostors, and the actuality of it all is that nothing we hear that is stated as ‘fact’ is that at all. There is no ‘fact’ that American Sports is on the downfall, in ‘fact’ many sports professionals may say it is in its glory days. The only ‘fact’ is that for all of us who enjoy the games and spend our valuable free-time and hard-earned dollars are getting screwed every time we purchase a ticket, turn on a game, or buy merchandise.” “
The ‘FACT’ is Milwaukeeworlders, we are getting lied to every time
we turn around and we are either not noticing or quite frankly are not caring!!!” Marty the Sports Chick |
