November 8, 2004 Real Wisconsin Football Marty The Sports Chick Looks like my prediction of six weeks ago will hold to be true and that my predictions of three weeks ago are still in play. Wisconsin continues to exhibit that they are the best team in the Big Ten. What’s more, it is beginning to look more and more like the Badgers will be a contender for the BCS Championship. During the game on Saturday, one of the talking head broadcasters even said that the two best teams in the country are Auburn and the Badgers. Duh, as I have said before, the inclusion of the Utes is disgraceful and the fact that those who devised the BCS statistics have created a system where a team like California can become a contender is simply a joke. Once again, those West Coast teams are a joke. Their biggest competition is other west coast teams and most of them couldn’t beat St. Mary’s of the infirmed unless the wheelchairs had flat tires. I am not a homer and will call it like I see it, but this year I am happy to tell you that the well-balanced and highly-talented Wisconsin Badgers are one of the best two teams in the country and may in fact be THE best team. When the offense started to mature and Stocco became a real QB rather than a professional baseball player in a different uniform, it changed the entire dimension of the team. In college it is a team game and a coach’s game. Big Barry, given the talent, can coach right up there with the best of them. This year he has two bona fide NFL caliber defenders, an offensive line that is dominating the opposition, and, as always, a very good running back in Anthony Davis who carries the load if it needs to be carried. This year, for a change, we have a QB and receivers that also can play right up there with the best in the country. I predict that the pretenders from the left coast will fall and I also hope that someone will finally be able to close the deal on that way overrated group of Stoopsters from Oklahoma. They should have been beaten twice in the last two weeks but managed to luck out. I still believe we will see the Badgers in Miami in January. At least I hope that the circumstances present themselves so that the crappy BCS statisticians can’t appoint some group of pretenders to play for a National Title game. I hope all the folks up in Packerland used this bye week to rest up and prepare for the second half of the season. Thank God for bye weeks, we really needed this one. Hopefully Brett’s had time to rest and recuperate as well as Darren Sharper and everyone else. We need to have everyone healthy and ready to go when the second half starts on Sunday. We have a chance to finish the season right, but all heads have to be screwed on tightly and everyone needs to come ready to play every Sunday, not just every other one. It appears to work when Sherman calls the plays from the sidelines, so hopefully they have figured out that that’s a good thing to continue. Maybe the men in GB got a chance to watch the men in Madison this weekend and were reminded of what football in Wisconsin is supposed to be like. The fans are here and ready to cheer on the great Mr. Favre and the rest all the way to the playoffs. We can handle a lot, but please don’t make us have to handle losing to the boys from Minnesota. Annika won again and the NY Women’s Marathon was the closest in history. After her devastating no finish in Athens it was good to see Paula Radcliffe rebound so beautifully and come up with a big win. I’m sure that was just the type of ego-boost she needs right now….Kudos to you Paula. We also found out last week that Lance may not compete next year in the Tour, although I’m going to have to see that one to believe it. It’s hard to believe he could handle being just a spectator. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. All of this in the sports world plus the complete loss of senses by the Citizens of this country last Tuesday. Really, it appears that anything can happen in America, even if it is senseless and against all reason. That is all folks, I am tired. Meet me here again next week, you know the deal, keep your ears open and your noses clean. Happy B-day MG.....ANF,FNA. F’N A! Ciao........... Marty the Sports Chick |
