Season of Reason!

Welcome back my fellow sports enthusiasts! What a hell of a week this nation has endured. With Election Day upon us, remember that this is the season of reason, and if you are an avid reader of this column and this site, then you know that when I emphasize the importance of voting on November 2, you understand why.

Get your butts out to the polls and vote Tuesday. I am sure you are aware of my choice, but regardless of whom you are voting for, please make your opinion count and get your voice heard. A vote not cast gives a person absolutely no right to bitch when the s+++ hits the fan over the next fours years. NONE!

With that said, let’s get back to the other reasons that November is the season of reason!

So you thought I was out of control last week when I mentioned that the Badgers could be playing for the BCS title come January. Well, guess what, two of the top contenders for that opportunity fell by the wayside this weekend and another one almost bit the dust. Barry Company did pretty well this weekend bye doing nothing. After Miami and Florida State choked it up against lesser competition and Oklahoma almost blew it against their home state rival, all that is left is for the Badgers is to step up to the challenge and finish the season undefeated. A tough goal no doubt, but one that the defensive oriented men in red can accomplish. When you have players like the manimal Eramus up front and the mini-manimal Leonhard in the back, it is possible that there will be no more offensive touchdowns scored against our boys in Madison.

I just hope none of them were involved in the Halloween hysterics that engulfed our state capital over the weekend. However, given the history of Badger players, it wouldn't surprise me. Nonetheless, with a pretender like Utah and a typical west coast overrated USC still in front of us, I have a feeling that there will be an opportunity for us. And all that talk about Oklahoma, you saw on Saturday that they are not only vulnerable, but also probably overrated. The hope for a national title in college football is firmly in the hands of the Wisconsin Badgers. I will be interested to see how they handle the opportunity or if they view it as a burden. We will know in a month.

I am truly hopeful that the performance of our beloved number 4 in the second half Sunday is due to the sore thumb and not a throwback to his days of reckless behavior. I have never been too critical of his picks since they go along with his aggressive style but the throws he tossed up for grabs yesterday were reminiscent of the early 90s. We also better hope that Sharper is back and in good form in two weeks because Daunte and company will make short work of our secondary if our level of play back there doesn't improve. I will give props to Ahmad Carroll; he is really coming along and is much better than I thought he would be at this point in the season. Problem is, it isn't good enough to compete with the high level receivers we will see in the weeks ahead. And with all due respect to Al Harris, he got burned at least twice on Sunday and both times it was simply that he was too slow to react and too slow afoot to do anything about it. We need Sharper there to back up these guys and if Jue is going to continue to play at the inspired level he did this week, then maybe we need to find a place for him too.

And thank God that KGB finally made an impact this week.

Guess that the Redskins (why are they still using that offensive team nickname?) were more concerned about the frontal attack from Hunt and Jackson than they were about the quick rush, and that was so good to see. Finally, it looks like we are getting some kind of consistency and inspired play from our defensive front from someone other than the overachieving Aaron Kampman. It will take intensity and commitment from that group if we are to become a great team.

Greg Rugamer is an athlete. He has stepped into the middle of an offensive line and measured up to the standards of the others that surround him. It would be easy to credit his success to the efforts of those to his right and left but it is he who has shown the moxie to get the job done. Brett should be very grateful that another guy has risen to the role of protector of the realm as we have seen from others who have occupied the center position over this past decade.  There are eight more games; none will be easy but all we have to do is whip the Vikings twice and then play with heart the other six games and we will win the division and the conference title.

One last thing, what the hell is the deal with this NATION crap? First I had to listen to all those East Coast effete radical right-wing nuts talk about Red Sox Nation as if it were some noble society of special members. Get real, the Red Sox are nothing more than the latest edition of the hired guns who come to town for a short time to put down an insurrection, get paid a lot and then move on to the next place that will pay the most. They are the latest incarnation of the Florida Marlins 1 and 2, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the perennial Hessian Army, the Yankees.

Nation, my ass, BANDWAGON is the correct name for that group of silly worshippers who jump on to the latest craze and claim it as their birthright. I am sick of them.

You know what else I am sick of? Stupid freakin people. A quote this week from the ever so intelligent NBA player, Miami Heater Shaq. When asked by a reporter if he got to visit the Parthenon when in Greece this summer, O’Neal’s answer, and I SWEAR TO FREAKIN GOD people, was, “Ya know, we went to so many clubs over there that I cannot remember all of the names.”

What a total fool! And to think little kids actually look up to him as a role model.

With that said, lets give props this week to Vijay Singh for winning the ten mil and proving that he is the best golfer on the circuit this year. Lets also ask The Cardinals where the hell they were last week during the World Series? I am not sure even one of the guys showed up to play besides AP, and he my friends, as good as he is, is not capable of winning that tough a series alone. Better luck next year boys.

Looks like the luck this week is on the side of ALL the men from New England!

If you know what I am saying.......................

Remember Milwaukeeworlders, the Bucks open their season this week and lets hope to God that TP has them hyped and ready to play. The pre-season has been nothing but a bore, but it usually is, so come game-time Saturday night against LeBron and crew let’s pray that Redd and company are out to prove that they are a contender and have come to play. Go Boys, I will be there to cheer you on!

Until we meet again, keep your ears open and your noses clean!

Ciao
