Are You Freakin Serious?

Hello Again Milwaukeeworlders!!

WELCOME TO SHOCKTOBER!  The Yanks are DONE! Who woulda thunk it? Those boys from Bean-Town are definitely on a mission and they proved that on Sunday night with their victory over the Cards in a very assertive attack! I mean Curt Schilling pitching six innings with blood dripping from his socks, come on people, these guys are so freakin' passionate they are willing to play with torment and misery in order to get this curse reversed.

With two sterling victories under their belts it may be that our beloved Green and Gold is back and ready to attack! With defeats over Detroit and Dallas the last two Sunday’s it might actually be that our boys could go into the bye-week with an even record of 4-4. That, of course, depends on their play this week in Washington, but all odds seem to be on our side, at least for now. Allow me to elaborate.....

It was good but it wasn't great.

The victory was sweet and the promise seemed there, but the opponent just wasn't that good. Parcells said after the game that Dallas might not win another game with a defense as full of holes as theirs was on Sunday. Javon is emerging as a superstar but I am still seeing Ferguson (I know he is hurt) and Driver drop too many balls and the reason seems to be that they seldom get any real separation from the defenders. This isn't new for Robert, but it is for Donald and I guess it is still the aftershock of that injury last year. Antonio Chatman had to reach behind himself to catch that critical third down pass in the second quarter and that was great but someone other than he and Javon have to do that regularly if we are to continue to win.

It is also amazing to see the difference in Ahman's running game now that Najeh is back. Being able to keep some freshness in his legs and having another big man to punish the defense gives us back our best weapon, the running game. Oh my, that passing combination of Fisher to Franks was fun too.

I guess we no longer have to wonder how important Grady Jackson is to the defense. Until yesterday periodically stopping a run play was just about nonexistent.   With Grady back it seemed that the linebackers were filling holes and there was some serious tackling going on. Trouble is that we are still weak to the long stuff if the opposing QB has time to throw. Several times yesterday our weak secondary gave up passes because we were too slow and didn’t have good angles on the opponent’s routes.

Oh come on you say, you are looking at the glass as half empty and it is really half full. I don’t think so. We have some real deficiencies and we need to have some of our high priced talent step up and deliver according to their paychecks. That goes for both sides of the ball. Detroit isn’t as good as their record indicates but they might just pull off some miracle if we aren’t ready for them next time. And remember, they have a defensive front four that is just as good as our offensive line and if Rivera is hurt, then they might be better than we are. But I will have to say that the much-maligned Greg Rugamer did a good job on Sunday and should get his props.

One last note about the Pack, is it just me, the ultimate Sherman hater, or did he redeem himself on Sunday afternoon by ACTUALLY doing his JOB and calling the plays? In my opinion, as much as I dislike the guy, his play calling on Sunday was just short of perfection and if he continues to keep calling the offensive plays the remainder of the season, could it be that this team might actually have a shot at making the playoffs.

Let me tell you Milwaukeeworlders, I do believe so. Keep it up Sherman, and props to not looking like a total slob from the Trailer Park at Lambeau this weekend. You deserve a high-five.

I predicted here in this column five weeks ago that the Badgers were the best team in the Big 10. Seems I was right again. Eight wins and no losses going into the bye week and only one really tough foe still to go. When they get that monster man end back, they will be even better defensively and I am going to predict an unbeaten season and maybe even a chance at that silly BCS thing. The Sooners are susceptible, and all those West Coast teams are overrated. The Tigers may or may not make it through the season undefeated, FSU has already lost once and Miami could be the only other undefeated. It could happen. Still a ways to go but don’t count out the Badgers. Our defense is really good and it is always defense that wins championships.

How about them Red Sox? One thing though, the next three are in the friendly confines of Busch Stadium and that Red Sox Nation crap doesn’t play in St. Louis. I predict the winning streak will stop at six and we will see the World Series go back to Boston with the Cardinals ready to build a net with those socks.

Again we have had an awesome week in professional sports and it is only going to get better! The Bucks are back, and although not top-notch as of yet, they are a team that is for sure going to be a contender and TP is damn sure that all of us realize that by opening night.

October is one of the most exciting months in all of sports. We have so many things to look forward to and let me tell you people, if you have not been paying attention, now is the time to start. Cause people, SHOCKTOBER is here and we cannot afford to miss one minute of the action.

Meet me here again next week, same time, same place.

As always, keep your ears open and your noses clean and we shall meet again one week from now!

Ciao,
