October 11, 2004 AND THE BEAT GOES ON.......AND ON, AND ON, AND ON...... By: Marty Coultas Oh hello again Milwaukeeworlders. What a freakin week it’s been in the world of professional sports. We see Ricky Williams beggin to come back, we see Mike Mackenzie beggin to leave, and we see the Yankees prove, YET AGAIN, that they are seemingly unstoppable as well as the Saint Louis Cardinals affirm that, oh by the way people, they really are THAT GOOD. And then to top that off, we see the Brewers sale, the Packers utter lack of talent, motivation, willpower and drive, and the Bucks return to town with a suspect sense of what’s to come. Let me tell you people, I am just beat. There is too much freakin drama happening in sports. We’ve got baseball players shooting each other, football players talking smack, hockey players planning murders, and most of all, franchise owners going absolutely freakinAWOL! Mark Cuban ring a bell? That guy is completely CRAZY! But, I guess if you are like me Milwaukeeworlders, that is why we are so intrigued by these games we all love so dearly. So, let’s start with Baseball.............. As I watched the baseball playoffs this weekend, I was once again reminded that the Yankees really do have a gift of player acquisition. When Steinbrenner hires these multimillionaire players, they seemingly play even harder. Rueben Sierra comes from nowhere to hit a three run homer to tie the game and then turns it over to A Rod. Alex Rodriguez: Man what a competitor. There is a different look on his face when it is crunch time. It is a look of complete exhilaration. When it is game-on-the-line time he wants to be out there. No sense of nervousness or fear, only challenge and the thrill of the chase. Hits a double, steals third, spooks the pitcher and scores on a wild pitch. He is the highest paid player in the game, also the best player in the game. Other teams and players cannot seek to duplicate the skill level of the left side of the Yankee infield but wouldn't you think they would try to emulate the attitude and commitment of those two guys. Win or lose, those Yankees leave everything they have on the field. They are fun to hate but MY GOD people, you have to admire their game.
As you also have to respect those boys from Budville. I swear to God people that these boys from Saint Louis are the real deal. Their team play and overall dominance in the series against the Dodgers is nothing but proof that these boys are ready for the big time. Tony La Russa is a freakin genius and Albert Pujols is nothing but a SUPERSTAR. Regardless of the team they get next round, I guarantee this team will win. They are on a mission and the only thing these boys are playing for now is the Gold. Nothing more, Nothing less. And let me tell you Milwaukeeworlders, as of today, there is no doubt in my mind, come the first week in November, yes people, NOVEMBER, the Cardinals will be the World Series Champs. Baseball is intense and come playoff time the intensity gets stronger and more dominant. These guys know what they want and will do everything and anything in their power to achieve their goal. And right now, Saint Louis is the only team I see that thinks this way. Good luck boys; you’ve got a tough road ahead of you! With that said, let talk some local news. No, not another rampage from me about what an absolute IDIOT Mike Sherman and the rest of his staff is, not another blow to the Crew, although both absolutely deserve it, lets talk about the return of my favorite team, your Milwaukee Bucks. Over the past week since we last met, our boys returned to start pre-season training. Although the mood in St. Francis seemed buoyant on the outside, I am a bit concerned that is not the case inside the Cousins Center. When a reporter from Sports Illustrated showed up at training camp last week, Terry Porter had no problem voicing his thoughts on the predictions from nearly every sports outlet in America predicting that the Bucks will be one of the worst teams in the NBA this season. Terry, clearly pissed off and annoyed said flat out that his team was doing so poorly in camp that the only optimism he had was that a twenty win season would guarantee them a lottery pick in next years draft. This is not a joke people. Maybe Porter was doing what the media wants him to do and admit that his team is going to suck. Maybe he was so irate that this ass from SI had the audacity to say such ludicrous statements that he was smacking him back. But could it be Milwaukeeworlders, that Mr. Porter was actually being truthful? That better not be the freakin case! Cause if it is people, we are in for a longer season of disappointment and heartache than the one we just ended at Miller Park. If Porter thinks his statements were funny or an attack on the media, he is a moron. The head coach of any professional organization saying that his team is destined for downfall is maybe the most idiotic and ridiculous thing a person could ever say. Can any of you disagree with that? I certainly hope not. These boys are back. These boys are ready. And these boys will not be one of the worst teams in the NBA this year. Remember we have the Bulls, Denver, and the Clippers to guarantee that. But Milwaukeeworlders, these boys still need a lot of work to do before the season opens in a few short weeks. We better pray that Toni and Keith are healthy. We better pray the Michael is ready to step up and be the leader he has claimed to be. And most of all, we better freakin pray that Desmond is ready to start playing some offense. Cause if these issues are not addressed and tended to, the national media may be right on the money and we may be in for a ROUGH-ROUGH-ROUGH season. Play some ball boys, work on your health, and God Forbid you guys, can you take ONE FREAKIN WEEKEND off from Eve, CO2, Taylor’s and SILK? Just one. You don’t have to flash your cars, your ice and your cash every damn Friday and Saturday night. We have all seen it many, many, many times. Stay home. Watch a movie. Just one weekend boys. Is that too much to ask? Like I said before you guys, I am just beat. I cannot take any more of this crap that is happening across the sporting nation. Lets pray that Brett is ready Monday for Tennessee and that his heart is playing for his brother-in-law the way it played for his dad when he passed away last year. We can talk more in depth about that next week. Lets just freakin pray that GB wins on Monday. If they don’t, it’s over. Point blank. Nothing further. See you next week, same time, same place. Hey MG, A and F, F and A. 365 and counting! As always, keep your ears open and your noses clean. Ciao, Marty the Sports Chick |
