The Never Ending Stories

Hello Again Milwaukeeworlders. As always, we have had one hell of an interesting week in the world of professional sports. As most you know, our diminishing Brew Crew actually showed a bit of rejuvenation this week with the outbreak of Brady Clarke and Scottie (MY HOTTIE) Podsednik. Brady's on a five game hitting streak, with two homers on this current road trip and Po stole his 55th base on Thursday in Cinci, sliding into the Major League Baseball History books. Props to you Mr. Hottie.
In Fact, Congrats to both of you! Let's hope that the MLB will recognize these two awesome athletes and give one of them National League Player of the Week.
It's a tad far-flung, but something that should be bequeathed.
And another note about the under-covered Milwaukee Brewers, does anybody realize (Besides us, Milwaukeeworlders,)
that Lyle Overbay, the OUSTANDING first-base man is a FINALIST for the Hank Aaron Award, the prize that goes to the best overall hitter in each league?
I highly doubt it.
Overbay, in his first season as the full-time starter was batting .345 after the All-Star break. He has since slipped a little mostly because the other teams in the National League have finally started to scout him and watch his films. This guy is the real-freakin-deal people, and I HOPE TO ALL HELL, that the Brewers do everything in their power to keep him on our roster.
Congrats to you Lyle. I hope you get this coveted honor, since as we all know it is an award named for the greatest player to ever play for our hometown team. You deserve it!
And that my friends brings us to the never-ending drama that is still happening in good ole Green Bay. Yet again this week, Mr. Sherman has remained seated on his high horse refusing to even talk to Mack about being a member of this team. However, according to the ever-so-trustworthy ESPN.com people, Sherman has said that if and when Mr. Mike would like to talk with him about a contract settlement that he would be more than willing to do so.
Um, yeah right Sherman.
I was born in the morning. But, not YESTERDAY morning.
If you think that any Packer fan, or NFL fan in general remotely believes one word that is coming out of your over-paid, under-qualified mouth you are freakin crazy. In fact, if you think that we believe anything you have said or will say, I have a great piece of beachfront land in Southern Florida I can sell ya.
Remember Milwaukeeworlders that I informed you last week from a VERYVERYVERY reliable source of mine from GB, that Mack was in town last week. In fact, he was in town for more than five days. I doubt that he was there on vacation. If Sherman is going to be such an ass and not get off his pot, then our boys are in for a very, I cannot emphasize that enough, very long season.
Obviously with the unsettled future of Mack and when and if he will ever return to GB, the Packers this week chose to sign an extension with cornerback Al Harris. Harris who was entering his final season as a Green Bay Packer and would have been a free agent in the off-season signed a four-year deal with the financial details being kept highly under wraps. Well, sort of. We do know that he will be averaging nearly 4 million a year, not including bonuses and all that jazz.
Although it was critical to sign Harris since we have no freakin clue what the hell is going to happen with Mack, it was hardly the sheathe we need for the colossal cavity we still have at corner.
But for now, as we open our season this week we will have to rely on Mr. Harris to do his job and do it as best as he possibly can. Remember Milwaukeeworlders, it was Mr. Harris' 52-yard return on a Seattle interception last season that secured the Pack a wild-card playoff spot.
With that said, all we can do is hope that Sherman will wise up and remember who actually runs the team. Cause let me tell ya people, it certainly is not him. When he realizes that, our season might actually pan out to be somewhat of a memorable one.
I don't know yet if we are to be rewarded from Barryland, I mean Madison of course, but it appears that the Badgers have themselves a pretty good competitive team this year. There is your typical compliment of giant linemen and we seem to have a secondary that looks good, if young and anchored by that Leonhard kid who is really good. We will need to get into the Big Ten season to know for sure but we have two wins and that UNLV team was pretty solid all the way around. May be we will go as far as only one Big Ten loss. That Irish victory over Michigan will cause us all to find out how good those guys are and the rest of the league is really not that good. It will be Bowl time in January, just a matter of which one.
Until we meet again, please remember to keep your ears open and your noses clean. Also keep Michael Horne in your thoughts as well. I’m thinking of you buddy.
Take Care,
Marty the Sports Chick
