Bird’s Words Absurd?

Welcome back Milwaukeeworlders. What a crazy week it has been in the world of professional sports. From one former NBA Hall of Famer to another, the asseverations were flying this week around the league, and people let me tell you this, the statements were not flattering to an already unimpressive fraternity

Last week Indiana Pacers’ President of Basketball Operations and official team representative, as well as a former Boston Celtics superstar and Hall of Famer Larry Bird made some pretty serious comments regarding racism and prejudice in the most beloved game in all of sports. Bird sparked some serious freakin controversy when he let loose on NBA reporters saying there are not enough white (Anglo-Saxon) players in the National Basketball Association. Sure Bird explained, there are guys like Toni Kucok, Dirk Nowitski, Steve Nash and Slava Medvedenko, who mind you are all white professional players, but not one of them a natural born American citizen.

ESPN’s moronic sports reporter Jim Gray got the interview and by the way, he is the imbecile who seems to get all the really great quotes from pro athletes throughout each league, but yet there is not one single sports fan in America who has any respect for the guy.... Remember the Pete Rose incident at the All-Star game a few years back?

Anyway, Gray sat down with Bird and asked the question, “Does the NBA lack enough white superstars in your opinion?” After a little contemplation on Bird’s part, he responded with an overwhelming “ I think so. I think it’s good for a fan base. As we all know, the majority of the fans are white America, and if you just had a couple white guys in there. It is a black man’s game and it will be forever.”

What in the hell does that mean Larry? Your statement did not make any sense. Not even an educated WHITE MAN could figure out the meaning of your comments. My God, you didn’t even finish your freakin sentence. Is it just me, or did the above comment, which mind you is a VERBATIM quote make any sense at all?

“And if you just had a couple white guys in there.....” What Larry, if we just had a couple white guys in there.....What? What would a couple white guys do?

Doesn’t the NBA already have “A couple white guys?” In fact doesn’t your own freakin team have a “couple white guys?”  I thought that Austin Croshere, Scott Pollard and Jeff Foster were all white guys.

Apparently to Bird, they are not who he was referring to.

What a simpleton.

Is Magic Johnson Right?

Following the ridiculous comments from Bird and after agreeing with Bird’s ridiculous comments, former Los Angeles Lakers legend and now part owner and representative for the Lakers, Magic Johnson stated that he sanctioned Larry’s opinions. His long time foe on the court and friend off the court stated, and I tell you again, VERBATIM, “We need some more LB’s – Larry Birds,” referring to Bird’s remark that there are not enough white players in the game.

Okay Magic, whatever, last time I remember, this game was not about the color of your skin, rather the talent of the player.

What a joke.

Anyway Milwaukeeworlders. I am not writing about Magic to trash his statements on the obvious discrimination in the NBA, but rather to tell you of his disgust with his LA Lakers and there conduct and poise in their series against the future NBA Champions, The Detroit Pistons.

After Thursday night’s debacle in Detroit, where Johnson’s team was SCHOOLED by the dominating defense of the Wallace Brigade and the offensive power of one Prince, Magic went off to the media on his beloved franchise.

Johnson is anything but happy with the play and attitude of his OVERRATED team in this NBA finals that has drawn lackluster ratings, and even less fan appreciation. Johnson was so irate with the play of his team on Thursday night that he left the game in the third quarter to avoid having any more camera shots showing his TRANSPARENT disappointment in the play of so-called dominators Gary Payton, Karl Malone, and yes Milwaukeeworlders, the BELOVED Kobe (Um, yes you know I am guilty,) Bryant.

In a statement released to the media on Friday, Johnson said, “ I think the Lakers had a mind-set that was disrespectful to the Pistons. They thought it was going to be easy. That is so not the case. Unless they come out and play very hard, with the same level of intensity as the Pistons, this series will be over.”

And, Milwaukeeworlders, it seems that Mr. Johnson was right on the money as his team again fell to the Pistons on Sunday night 88-80 in a game that was not nearly as close as the score would indicate.

The Pistons will win this series for one reason and one reason only.

THEY FREAKIN WANT IT!!

The Lakers are a bunch of over paid babies with outrageous egos and salaries to boot. Payton and Malone went to LA for one purpose, and that purpose was to win the ring that neither one had yet been talented enough or passionate enough to earn in the past. Malone, although injured throughout much of the series is still the physical giant with the same old dirty tricks he has been known for since the early 1990’s and Payton, has been nothing but a bench warmer in the series, and when Phil does let him play, he is still so damn arrogant and selfish that he will not pass the ball to Kobe or any other open man when they have a guaranteed shot.

This my friends is the reason the Pistons are up 3-1 in the series, and this my fellow sports fans, is the reason that come one week from now, Larry Brown will be the Coach of the National Basketball Champions.

It’s that simple. This series is over. Mark my words, the only glory Kobe is going to get in the upcoming months will be a mistrial in Colorado and that is only if his lawyers play their card right. Let me tell you, Kobe will not be receiving the glory of a fourth ring in five seasons.

At least not this year.

And that my friends is my opinion on the world of Professional Basketball this week.

As always, your feedback and emails are appreciated. I read each one and reply to all, so do not hesitate to write to me with your opinions on the downfall of the NBA or any other thoughts you may have on the ever so exciting world of Pro Sports.

Until we meet again, keep your ears open and your noses clean.

GO PISTONS!!!!!
