![]() May 3, 2004 Disgraceful Detroit DebacleBy: Marty Coultas Milwaukeeworld.com Welcome back Milwaukeeworlders. I know last week I promised to write about the NFL draft by the Pack last Saturday, but I have had to change my agenda completely after a devastating week for all Milwaukee Bucks fans. On Monday the Bucks had all the advantage in the world. The series was tied at one game apiece and Milwaukee was playing at home with their fans and their court. What happened was not only an embarrassment to the team, the coaches, and the fans, but it was an embarrassment to the city of Milwaukee. Just like Saturday the Bucks came out ready to play. They were focused and intent on hitting the shots and taking the lead from the get go. Well, the get go never got going after the first quarter. No one and I mean NO ONE could get under the basket and catch a rebound. Hmmm......Isn’t that the freaking point of the game boys? We have three players considered to be official defense oriented players and not one of them could compete with the Wallace brigade. Now, lets talk about that......The Wallace brigade. Ben and Rasheed, two of the dirtiest players in the game, as well as two of the best defensive players in the NBA, never let the Bucks get close. It was like watching a streetball game, only with less talent and drive. Not to mention a guy whose name is Prince dominating the series altogether. Who the hell knew this guy could play like that? Certainly not Terry Porter. The officiating in the game on Monday was one of the worst called NBA games I have ever witnessed. There were three times in the second quarter that Rasheed physically kicked Desmond AND Redd and no calls were made. There was another time Rasheed screamed at the ref. so loud the people watching TNT could hear his foul mouthed, raunchy language.......But yet again, its the playoff boys and refs. do not call T’s on guys with criminal and drug backgrounds. They just call them on Toni when he was blatantly fouled under the basket. Toni got the T. What a joke. So, after the embarrassment of Monday, the Bucks took two days to get their asses in gear and fly to Detroit. Whatever happened on that plane should be illegal. In a game where being a team is the only way to win, it seemed that most of the boys left their brains on the plane when they stepped to the runway. Then we reach game time on Thursday night. In a series that the Bucks had scored over 80 points in all four games, they came out meaning to do the same. But yet again, after leading most of the first quarter they let Detroit slap them in their faces the rest of the game. Michael Redd was useless, not because he was not trying but because he had guys on him the entire game. The guy could not get a shot if his life depended on it. Toni was again useless, as he was the entire series as was Desmond. The only one that showed any heart was Joey and there was no way in hell he could handle that defense on his own. So, yet again the Bucks are out after an extremely exciting and impressive season. Do not get me wrong as I write about the series and debacle that ensued. I love my Milwaukee Bucks more than anything, but I am not sure if I can handle another let down like the ones we have had the last three seasons. I know Porter is a rookie head coach and TJ was hurt and Toni is old. I know Harris is overwhelmed and Michael is frustrated. But come one boys, this is the big time and it is time for some serious changes during the off-season. Let the boys go home and rest for a month, but ride their asses to WORK ON THEIR DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!! This team has the ability to go far deeper in the playoffs than they did and it is time for them to give back to the city that supports them. We have been let down so many damn times in the past three seasons, we need a winner. Please, Mr. Porter take some time to gather your thoughts and rest your brain. But come camp, please instill in these boys the importance of DEFENSE. I know they were the second best offensive team in the NBA, but all that is crap with no ability to bulwark. Figure out what the hell we are going to do with Van Scorn and figure out where Toni is going to fit with all the youngsters. Get TJ to stay out of trouble and get healthy. And most of all, PLAY DANNY G!!!!!!!!!!!! The guy is an athlete and can be such as asset to this franchise. Wake up and smell the disappointment guys!! So, I know this team can “rebound” back from this season with work and determination. Lets prove to the other NBA towns that we can play with the big boys. I beleive in the Bucks and I hope that you all do as well. Until next week, keep your ears open and your noses clean. By the way, to my new friends from GB this is the shout out I promised. Keep your head up MB! Marty the Sports Chick
