Atty. Anthony J. Machi, [Marquette U '71] age 63, the former Greenfield Municipal Court judge who heads a group that has until today, Monday, September 28th, 2009, to finalize its bid to operate the Milwaukee Mile racetrack may indeed be a natural for the job.
Machi was cited for driving 21 miles per hour over the speed limit in Walworth County on September 21st, 2009.
It was not previously known that Machi's passion for race car driving extended to the public highways of Wisconsin.
Machi's $407,816.03 pension backdrop payment was the 23rd largest such outlay made by Milwaukee County under the plan devised by the former Tom Ament administration. Machi, of Greenfield, a retired Milwaukee County Court Commissioner, also draws a $3,869 monthly pension.
This should leave him plenty of money to pay his $225.70 fine for speeding, should he be found guilty of the "Class U Forfeiture Misdemeanor, but possibly a bit short to run his own racetrack.
Machi's Historic Mile LLC group received a letter of intent August 3rd, 2009, to negotiate to operate the historic oval at the Wisconsin State Fair Park. Rival promoter Frank Giuffre has publicly and privately expressed his doubt that Machi's group has the wherewithal to operate the track, which is burdened by over a million dollars in past debts.
The Wisconsin State Fair Park Board will meet today to vote on Machi's bid. The Wisconsin State Fair Park, an agency of the State operated largely according to the whim of the sitting governor, apparently does not publish its calendar and agendas on its website.
[UPDATE, Monday, September 28th, 2009, 3:00 p.m. -- As reported by Dave Kallmann of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the board approved the Machi proposal and gave his group until Thursday to deposit required funds into an escrow account. --Ed.]

Michael,
Mr. Machi was the former judge in Greendale, not Greenfield: http://www.greendale.org/Departments/court/court_history/court_history.html
