BILLIE JEAN KING IN TOWN SATURDAY FOR GIRLS PRO BASEBALL REUNION
TENNIS GREAT TO SALUTE
ALL-AMERICAN GIRLS PRO BASEBALL PLAYERS
AT ICC ON SATURDAY
By Michael Horne
The All-American Girls Professional Softball League [1943 - 1954] is holding its reunion in Milwaukee this weekend, September 24th - 28th, 2009.
A highlight of the event will be an appearance by tennis legend Billie Jean King at a gala to be held at the Italian Community Center Saturday, September 26th, 2009 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
The "Girl" ballplayers and Ms. King are all in a "League of Their Own."
The theme of the reunion, which is drawing Jean "Buckets" Buckley all the way from California -- by train, just like in the old days -- is "The Power of the Human Spirit: 'Connecting with our Legacy.'"
This is the best sports convention in town since the Gay Softball World Series, with which it may share some things in common.
Welcome to Milwaukee!
PAUL G. KIRK, JR., NEW SENATOR FROM MASSACHUSETTS
Gov. Deval Patrick has named Paul G. Kirk, Jr. the new senator from Massachusetts, pending a January election to replace the late Senator Edward Moore "Ted" Kennedy.
Kirk, of 62 Sawmill Road, Marstons Mills, Massachusetts, [Est. 1648] lives in a 2,032 square foot split level home built in 1976 and valued at $829,700, including $459,000 for the 1.05 acre lot. The wood shingle structure has 7 rooms and three full baths, and has a gas hot water heating system. The dwelling is located on the shores of Mystic Lake in Cape Cod, and includes a $68,000 lake pier.
The Barnstable Association for Recreational Shellfishing provides the bulk of entertainment in the community, as well as a good source of high-quality protein for the inhabitants.
Milwaukeeworld welcomes Mr. Kirk as the juniorest member of the United States Senate, and as the first new senator since September 10th 2009 when Sen. George LeMieux (George LeWho?) took office in Florida.
Wisconsin senator Herb Kohl now ranks 23rd in seniority, while his junior colleague, Russ Feingold, ranks 30th.
Minnesota Democrat Al Franken has already rocketed up to 98th in the rankings, despite having served less than three months in office.
TO GIVE UP BOARD SEATS
As a Senator, Kirk will give up his seats on boards of directors, including that of the Hartford Financial Services, Inc., where he is currently the longest serving independent director. SEC filings indicate Kirk holds 12,696 shares of restricted stock and 7,946 shares of common stock in the insurance company.
