BIZ TIMES: STATE FAIR ISSUES DESPERATE PLEA FOR NEW TRACK PROMOTER
A MILWAUKEE MILE SAGA UPDATE
By Michael Horne
Biz Times announces a release from Wisconsin State Fair Park calling for experienced promoters to submit proposals to operate the Milwaukee Mile.
The Giuffres are probably telling the state there isn't enough time for a beauty contest, and that they should just be given the contract now to ensure a 2010 season.
The important thing is that current operator Claude Napier assented to the state's action. This frees the Governor and his folks to talk to anybody they want, hence the call for submissions.
The Mile has had a strange history of contracts -- sometimes competitively bid, sometimes not. Who knows this time?

As for me, I'll have plenty of time to reflect on this at the much slower (2 mph) Great Circus Parade downtown Sunday, July 12th, 2009. I'll be at Michael Murphy's Swingin' Door Saloon and Eatery, 219 E. Michigan St.[See historic photos above.] Let's have fun in this brief summer season.
