Former state representative Curt Gielow [R-23rd] announced yesterday, Monday, May 4th, 2009, his intention to run for the office of Mayor of Mequon, an area he represented in the Wisconsin Assembly during the glorious sessions of 2003-2007.
Gielow's election would be a homecoming of sorts: he served on the Common Council of Wisconsin's largest 4th Class City from 1997 to 2003. His peers elevated him to the presidency of that august body from 2001 to 2002.
Although neither the United States nor the Wisconsin Constitutions prohibit Gielow from serving as Chief Executive of the wealthy North Shore community, the bylaws of the Milwaukee Athletic Club [Est. 1882] forbid Gielow from assuming a position of responsibility in that venerable organization until he catches up with his dues.
Shamed! In the Lobby of His Club!
The name "Curtis Gielow" appears on the list of dues scofflaws as of March 30th, posted in the lobby of the club, and reviewed today, martes el cinco de mayo, 2009. Apparently Gielow's approach to Fiscal Conservatism is:
- Lower Taxes.
- Don't pay your bills
If Gielow has a case of the shorts, the mayorship of Mequon might earn him enough to pay his MAC dues -- with enough change left over to maybe even join Le Club!
The mayor is paid $9,600 per year for the part time job, with another $2,054 in insurance, social security and other perks.
Mayor Christine Nuernberg, who has announced her retirement at the end of her term in 2010 was also reimbursed $1,475 mileage expenses in 2008 for her wanderings throughout the Lanes and Traces of the 46.88-square mile community, Wisconsin's 4th largest city in area. She was first elected in 1998.
Gielow's day job is as Executive Dean of the Concordia University Wisconsin School of Pharmacy, also located in Mequon. The newly created school is expected to open in the 2010-2011 academic year.
FUN FACT!
Gielow is a former pharmacist himself. His Mequon home is located astride the langourous links of the North Shore Country Club, which, like the aforementioned MAC, is a private sporting resort. I have not had the occasion to view its list of Posted Members during the preparation of this bulletin.

If you've got to ask, you can't afford it.
