Is the Antichrist Catholic?

He Is, and He's Also the Pope

Mark Neumann says he is a candidate for governor who will care for traditional values, low taxes and the American way, by Jesus! He was God's co-pilot in his last election, a squeaker against Sen. Russ Feingold in 1998, and if we had a Theocratic Party, he'd be its candidate now. Instead, he has to bend his ideology a wee bit to the left to run as a Conservative Republican.
Neumann is a parishoner at Christ Church, Pewaukee, [Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS)], and serves on the board of Hope Christian Schools.
The Wisconsin Synod includes a biography of Neumann on its website. In addition, the Wisconsin Synod also includes a bunch of other crazy stuff on its website, including this gem:
"Q. What is the official stand of the WELS about who is the antichrist. Our pastor says it is the Pope."
"A. Our doctrinal position is that the Roman papacy has exposed itself and is to be recognized as the Antichrist."
Oh, that will bring out the Catholic vote, for sure.
Good God! Neumann is his own Jeremiah Wright! [For more see Malcontends "Neumann's Mean Machine."]
If I were to vote in the Republican primary, even as a spoiler, I would have a hard time choosing between Mr. Neumann and his challenger Scott Walker, whose father was a minister in the ultra-liberal American Baptist Church.
The two hope to unseat Governor Jim Doyle, who worships the Antichrist.
ABOUT THAT LOVELY HOME
Neumann and business partner Mark G. Sellers formed Moose Lake Partners and bought the former Hasslingers Moose Lake Beach Resort in a foreclosure action in 2000 and developed their dream homes on the site. (Sellers's house next to Neumann's is for sale for $3.3 million. Neumann's is assessed at $1.274 million. His 2008 real estate taxes are paid in full.)As you can see, the partners did their development none-too-sensitively to the scale of the existing cottages that harken back to the day when working class people could own lake homes. (Hasslingers was founded in 1922, and the area buildings mostly date to that time.)
Hasslingers was the last privately owned public beach in Waukesha County and was a heck of a fun place -- probably reason enough to eliminate it.
In 2003, the Town of Merton had some issues with the work done on the property by Moose Lake Partners. Apparently the tavern's garbage had been dumped on the site for decades, and cleanup required heavier equipment than expected.
Neumann is on the board of the Moose Lake Advancement Association (founded 1939). He operates Neumann Developments, and is fighting what he calls "urban sprawl" by building mostly single family homes ("minimum two-car attached garages -- no detached garages") in "green subdivisions," sometimes on lots as large as three acres, in areas known for their culs-de-sac.

"-And the first thing Mark Neumann may need to do in his run for governor is get a new photo. I don't think this one is doing him any favors."
--Milwaukee Magazine Editor Bruce Murphy, in a post entitled, "Can Neumann Beat Walker?"
"Neumann looks like Doyle with hair. Same lighting as Doyle's official photo. Same skull ratio, just less of it showing. "
--Milwaukeeworld Editor Michael Horne, in a response to Mr. Murphy's observation.
"Horne: Neumann and Doyle have the 'same skull ratio.' What does this mean for the GOP? Tons of stuff in this column and two out of the first three comments are about Neumann's photo."
-- A thread response
"Alex, you can't get elected to public office without an appropriate skull ratio. Everyone knows that, for heaven's sake."
--Another response.

Here's an election Wisconsin can get excited about! I positively tingle at the prospect of choosing one of three balding, boring old white guys.
