E-BAY FORGER KENNEDY ON LAM -- AGAIN
James F. Kennedy, the Northbrook IL art forger and dealer known for his 2004 attempt to sell fake Picassos in Milwaukee is on the run again. He failed to appear for sentencing last week, according to writer Jeff Coen, who once covered the fugitive for the Chicago Sun-Times, and now writes for Chicago Breaking News.
Kennedy was already on the run when he was busted by the Feds in Florida in January as part of a lengthy adventure outlined in previous Milwaukeeworld posts. The U.S. Postal Service nabbed him for retaliating against a witness in an Illinois criminal case, threatening him with bodily harm. [United States of America v. James Kennedy, U.S. District Court Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division 08 CR 0009.]
Although Kennedy had surrendered his passport to officials, he "apparently had another one," according to Coen's account, and he used it to attempt to flee to Windsor, Ontario on November 5th. He was turned away at the border, for reasons not entirely clear, and was not detained since his arrest warrant had not yet been processed.
It is not certain when Kennedy had been released on bail, or why, since he was a known flight risk. It is difficult to track federal defendants in pre-trial custody from widely available online research tools, and searching Federal court cases is not free, which is why I haven't much more to say right now.
However, this man is very bad news, and people across the nation should be concerned. Kennedy has a habit of continuing to sell artwork at fairs and shows while on bail and/or the run dating back to at least 2004, as milwaukeeworld noted even then.
