MIDWEST AIRLINES MULLS BANKRUPTCY

Midwest Airlines has notified the Association of Flight Attendants - CWA, the union representing its flight attendants, that it is considering filing for bankruptcy protection, according to a memo fetched by the Milwaukee World Hound Dog Team.
The memo, addressed to the company's flight attendants, reads, "Midwest Airlines management recently notified the MEC [union] that a bankruptcy filing cannot be ruled out within the next few weeks."
It goes on to say that Chapter 11 Bankruptcy "provides companies the right to seek court authority to reject otherwise binding contracts," presumably including such as exist with unions.
Majority control of Midwest was purchased earlier this year by Texas-based TPG Capital. Milwaukeeworld has not yet heard back from the company's spokesperson.

It makes me sad, to see all these airlines suffering. Unprotected by high fuel prices, what can they do? I work for a company that manages and tracks frequent flier mile programs and I've been following the airline industry on savvywallet.com. One thing to consider are the millions of unredeemed miles. My advice? Spend them before the companies decide to ground all their planes and services.
