GAY GROUP GIVES NOD TO ITS HEAD

Flaherty Trumpets Endorsement, While Rowen-McGovern Ignores Police Support

Also! Lynde Uihlein's Urine Test Results Revealed!

Sam McGovern-Rowen endorsements by environmentalists supporting his run for 3rd District Alderman include those from Whitney Gould and Lynde Uihlein. The list does not include Sam’s father, James Rowen, whose work is partially funded by Ms. Uihlein’s Brico Fund, as he notes in his blog, the Political Environment. Ms. Uihlein is quite a catch, since her attention is usually drawn to larger issues, as befits her wallet. Although she is ordinarily reclusive to the point of inconspicuousness, Lynde doesn’t mind letting us know that her urine contains 25 of 70 industrial compounds, pollutants and other chemicals! Or at least it did on November 28th, 2005, when she provided a sample to the Human Toxeme Project, proving that beer is not the only golden fluid you can get out of a Schlitz brewery heir.

Laboratory analysis shows that Ms. Uihlein had high levels of lead and methylmercury in her system, perhaps a byproduct of growing up in lead painted mansions and failing to watch her intake of oysters and caviar.

McGovern-Rowen is diligent about posting his endorsements, but failed to mention one he received from the Milwaukee Police Association. Curious. The cops also endorsed Ald. Tony Zielinski, who likewise received a nod from the Center Advocates PAC. That outfit, which supports full rights for gays and lesbians made a scattering of endorsements, including one in the 3rd district, where they chose Center Advocates Executive Director Patrick Flaherty as their candidate. Cozy! Elsewhere in the 3rd district, Nik Kovac will hold a fundraising party this evening, Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008 at theY-NOT III. Nick DePalma says he is a high school chum of Kovac, and that he will be serving Sprecher beer at the event. According to Kovac’s website, the Y-Not is located at “1854 N. Kenilworth Street,” which is only wrong on two accounts. The correct address is 1854 E. Kenilworth Place. It pays to know your district! On Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008, the Y-Not will also host a fundraiser for 6th Aldermanic District Candidate Mileli Coggs, another Riverside grad, and one of two lawyers with suspended licenses vying for the seat of jailed Ald. Michael McGee. The other is former Ald. Fred Gordon. (Both Coggs and Gordon never got around to keeping up their Continuing Legal Education credits, and must crack the books before they may return to practice.) Fred will be having a fundraiser at Libiamo on January 30th, 2008 with special guest Marvin Pratt, which is also the date of the Brady Street aldermanic candidates’ forum at the Hi-Hat Garage. Also on that day Sebastian Raclaw will hold an event at Soho 7 at 231 E. Buffalo.

This will be the last aldermanic election until the reapportionment after the census of 2010. By 2012 new districts will have been drawn, and if Rep. Fred Kessler has his way, he’ll be in charge. The man single-handedly redistricted the State of Nevada in 2000, to hear him tell it, and he’s ready to bring his talents back home. He has already come up with some projections of where to shift district lines for assembly and senate seats, and he would like very much to be in charge of the process when it happens for real. A good way to do that would be for the Democrats to gain control of the assembly, and for them to elect Kessler Speaker of the Assembly. How much would Old Smooth-as-Silk like to be speaker? “More than you and I want to wake up in the morning,” said one state senator.

Hello Micheal-

The correct website for Center Advocates PAC is www.CenterAdvocatesPAC.org

Please review all of the candidates we chose to review for this Primary and the early announcements of the General.

The endorsement process is an extensive survey that is sent to all eligible candidates in a race and reviewed by a committee of community volunteers. No candidate or candidate's representatives are involved in the process.

Sincerely,

Laurie Guilbault
Co-Chair
