GOVERNOR VACATIONING IN IRELAND
Where is Jim Doyle? Wisconsin's governor was the headliner yesterday at a fundraiser for the Assembly Democratic Campaign Committee held at Chez Jacques, 1022 S. 1st Street. But he was also a no-show. His surrogate, Department of Administration head Michael Morgan told the nearly 80 revelers who packed the joint that his boss was "on a much needed vacation, and his first one in ten years. He's in Ireland, and he's probably teeing up right now at a golf course." (Midnight golf must be the rage in the Emerald Isle.)
Although the governor was not there to support his friends in the assembly, the attendees seemed to manage, and were assuaged by the presence of Mayor Tom Barrett, in for a little flesh-pressing.
Minority Leader Jim Kreuser was touted as the next Speaker of the Assembly, and he mentioned that his team would be running the assembly right now, if it weren't for a shortage of 636 votes in the last election, leaving the chamber under the control of the Republicans.

I've got to run. I'll try to get more to you a bit later. --Horne
