Back in December, Milwaukeeworld told you Rollie Fingers was the State of Wisconsin's #1 tax deadbeat, with a debt of $1,433,609.
As of Monday, May 14th, 2007, that amount is $1,462,679.30 -- and growing, thanks to the miracle of compound interest.
For the first time, thanks to the filing of three tax warrants against Fingers, on April 25th, 2007, we know how much of his debt is past due tax, and how much is interest and penalties. No surprise here -- it is very "interesting."
Fingers is cited in three tax warrants filed by the Department of Revenue in Dane County Circuit Court. The cases are 2007TW000628; 2007TW000629 and 2007TW000631. They relate to income earned by Fingers when he was a Milwaukee Brewer in 1981-1982 and 1984-1985.
Adding up the figures from the three warrants, Fingers owes $328,667 in tax, $39,989 in penalties and a whopping $1,094,022 in interest, for a total of $1,462,679 -- and growing at over $200 per day, which is probably more than the National Baseball Hall of Famer is making pitching pain relievers and putting aids. Fingers does not receive a royalty on the Milwaukee Brewers 1982 American League Champions Medallion Collection where his medallion, issued this year at $2.99, has already fetched $4.99 on eBay. Unfortunately, Fingers is not among the 13 members of the silver anniversary team to be memorialized with a bobble head doll. The mustache got in the way.
