4-20

Here it is 4-20 once again. Three years ago Tom Barrett and a fresh new Common Council took office, and by the time this date rolls around next year there will have been elections for all of them to face. I don't know if this 4-20 has brought us the high times Barrett promised us in his inaugural address, since life is not always kind, bud.
This city's economy should be smoking, according to what we were promised at the time; it should be growing like a weed. Some day, maybe, eh? And in our lifetimes, please.
This 4-20 brings a happy confluence with Gallery Night, and I plan to hit the streets of the Historic Third Ward to see what's up in our artistic community. If the weather holds, it could be quite a night; some of the old loft buildings are already straining under the weight of case after case of Chardonnay.
At around 8:30, though, it will be off to the Holton Marsupial Bridge where Julilly Kohler has summoned the troops to catch a preview of the proposed soundscape design to be installed at that bridge-under-a-bridge. Ray Chi has developed a very clever system to record the changing moods of the river using light and sound. I won't give you the details now. Why not show up and find out for yourself?
Have a nice weekend. I'll be in the garden, but you can contact me by leaving a message at horne.milwaukeeworld@gmail.com. If you want, you can ring me at 1 414 315-2991, but don't give the number out to anybody.
