Milwaukee City Attorney Grant Langley says he plans to run again in 2008. If he wins, it will be his seventh term. If he loses, Milwaukee will then have only its tenth City Attorney in the past 100 years, a staggering record likely unmatched by any city of size.
Langley told milwaukeeworld "I have advised my staff that I plan to run again in 2008. In fact, I am planning a fundraiser for May."
Milwaukeeworld also sent a message to Wayne F. Whittow, City Treasurer since 1976, and a longtime office holder, being first elected to the Legislature in 1960. Whittow, 73, was asked if he planned to run again or to open the office to a newcomer. His response:
Dear Mr. Horne:
It is well known around City Hall that I run a very efficient office and do plan on seeking re-election as Milwaukee City Treasurer in 2008.

AN HISTORICAL NOTE
The City Attorney's office, with nine occupants in a century, is practically a revolving door compared to the City Treasurer's: There have been only four treasurers since 1918, also a mind-bogglingly small number by American electoral standards. Whittow's already collecting Social Security. Imagine how many pensions he has awaiting him! Might as well collect it while you're still living, ain'a? Certainly some potential opponent might feel this way.
