I was always curious why there were no comments on this website. I now know it is my fault for not properly setting some of the blogger controls. I believe I may have deleted all comments without ever having read any of them, although I hope this is not the case. So, continue commenting, and accept my apologies for apparently having ignored you all this time.

Where are your keen insights on this Ruvin vs. Rana deal at the old Sydney? reading the paper this morning, if you want to qualify the MJS as a newspaper, makes me wonder how or why the County Board even exists anymore! Why our community would turn over a key site for development, after years of being basically a freeway exit ramp, to a gas station and convenience store owner shows how backwards and stupid County government has become in Milwaukee. Having said that, what I found interesting red meat in this morning's "article" was that, big shocker here, the Stupervisors are selling out taxpayers on some "promise" of minority jobs and contractors! What a joke! Has anyone, hint hint, done any research here on Mr. Rana's current track record on hiring blacks and hispanics at his gas stations and convenience stores? How many of those stations exist in certain parts of Milwaukee with large populations of working class minorities, ahem the County Board districts of his "supporters" perhaps? Also, I would check who Rana has donated to on the City Council and the County Board. Next, I would talk to people coming and going from Rana gas stations primarily in minority neighborhoods, and ask them how involved Rana has been in improving the community that he sucks cash out of everyday: for gas, for cigarettes, for groceries, for gum/candy/soda, etc. you get the point, in lower income neighborhoods, the gas station/convenience store takes in a disproportionate amount of money from people who have limited economic opportunities. Now that this guy is sitting on a huge chunck of capital, he wants to look like Joe Civic? If I were Ruvin, I'd also comb through Rana's tax filings with a fine tooth comb...One of the dumbest comments, was Peggy West public questioning of "I don't know how many people in Milwaukee can afford a $450k condo?" Well Peggy, one of several ways to lower property taxes in your south side district, would be to ADD to existing tax base. One way to attract outside wealth is through downtown residential development. With boomers retiring and outgrowing suburb housing, along with influx of professionals, particularly Chicago commuters, Milwaukee and its downtown especially, sits in a great position to expand its tax base and curb the middle class exodus from higher taxes and flat/declining public services. Unfortunately, our fair city gets mired into parochial debates and racial, politically correct social tinkering, instead of building a a great community for all to enjoy. Where is CRG in all this? That group professed to reform Metro Milwaukee politics and has really not done much here or statewide in the last several years. Michael, your fans are depending on your help with what could be the next pabst city story, with the potential to restructure local politics as the Winter/Spring 2008 elections are a mere 18 months away...I can feel it cooling off outside already in fact !!!
