IMPRISIONED KAROS GETS YEAR AND DAY FOR MISSOURI "REMBRANDT" SCAM

Marilyn Karos, the 65-year old Whitefish Bay woman now serving 20 months in Federal custody for her attempt to "corruptly endeavor to influence, obstruct and impede the due administration of justice in the case of the United States of America v. Richard O'Hara," was sentenced yesterday in U. S. District Court in St. Louis to 12 months and one day imprisonment for her role in an attempt to sell a fake Rembrandt painting there.
The sentence, imposed by Judge E. Richard Webber, is to run concurrently with the 20 months' sentence she received last Halloween in Milwaukee. The judge also sentenced her to three years' supervised release.
According to the website of the Bureau of Prisons, Karos, who is now in transit, was expected to be released from prison on March 9th, 2007. After yesterday's sentencing, that date would appear to now be June 7th, 2007.
Karos has been a frequent flyer with the federal justice system since her involvement in a bizarre incident in 2000 when a very shady character named Zakria Abdul Hameed El-Shafei was beaten at her home by O'Hara when he refused to return to her antique celestial instruments that had been stolen years before from the Rome Observatory and which had been consigned to El-Shafei for sale. [The objects have since been repatriated.]
O'Hara, at the time of the beating, threatened to kill El-Shafei's then-pregnant wife, who was present at the time.
According to an e-mail sent to milwaukeeworld by Alexandra Pearl, the pseudonym for El-Shafei's ex-wife, he is now believed to be in Libya, possibly in Benghazi, his home town. She has written a slightly-fictionalized book called "Forbidden Prayers," regarding her time with the con man. The FBI and other law enforcement officials would be very interested in talking to El-Shafei, who managed to slip out of this country leaving a trail of warrants and judgments in his wake.
In the most recent caper, Karos conspired with a Missouri man to sell what was purported to be a Rembrandt painting to an individual who happened to be a federal agent.

I met Zakria El-Shafei about 4 years ago in Milwaukee. After looking him up on the circuit court system and various lies he told me, I dubbed him the Libyan Liar. He ALMOST tried to con me out of money. I'm just glad I figured things out and knew better and didn't correspond or see him ever again. I've been following his antics, and I feel for his wife. I know God will give her and her children the courage and strength to move on.
Thank you for your kind words and comments. I am glad that he did not get ahold of your money. Sadly, however, Zak's destruction of people, money, and lives spanned the whole United States and other countries. In the past I received many letters from individuals (mostly women) in which he abused or took advantage of. I will be publishing the second edition of Forbidden Prayers; it will contain more information and Lord willing a much better editing job. I do plan on visiting Milwaukee someday soon. Until then,

Wow, what a difference of opinion. All I can say is God bless him and I try and pray for his deliverance daily to Jesus but do not wish him to enter US soil as there are many lives destroyed by his previous actions. I am not going to get into an argument with anyone in referance to Zakria and his actions however, I will continue to write what I feel will bless people and lead them to my God not Allah.

Wow, what different opinions of Zak/Zakria. I can only speak for myself and what I have witnessed and/or seen. I am not going to get in a "pissing" match (sorry for the crude word) or an argument about the character or lack of character that Zakria does or does not possess. I however, will pray for him and hopefully one day he will turn his life over to God, Jesus. I will continue to write and Lord willing bless others. I will also pray for those who may or may not have been inflicted pain by said person.

I don't know who is supporting Mr. El Shafei so positively ?? Sorry, but, he's been proven to have conned people over and over. When I met him he asked if someone was following me, when I knew full well that he was probably being followed. He also lied about some stupid credit card and showed it to me, the numbers were rubbed off and there was an old date on it, he lies about stupid stuff. He also screwed people out of rent in Shorewood, I know this because someone I know moved into the exact same place right after him and I happened to figure it out when I was looking stuff up on the internet and made the connection.
The owners were older and didn't persue the case, but they should have. Please, the person posting stuff about him is probably HIM !!!
